Everybody at YourHAIRx is looking forward to summer and fun. We had to make a wig for Six Flags when they went for re-shoots and Yutaka (seen in the photo with our wig) shaved his head.

Vincent D'Onofrio stopped by the salon the other day and he was looking great. Although he doesn't wear a hair system, he was still interested in our product for an upcoming project.

Joseph Paris Presents MHP system at Oncology Nursing Conference

Renowned for more than four decades as one of the nation’s outstanding wig designers, Joseph Paris presented his latest innovation, the MHP Hair System, at the Oncology Nursing Society’s 33rd Annual Congress in Philadelphia from May 15th to 18th. He designed this unique medical hair prosthesis as a resource for cancer patients undergoing treatment. When they look in the mirror and see their own natural hairline and hairstyle, they'll feel better about themselves on the road to recovery.

More than 6,000 oncology nurses from across the country gathered at the conference. They enhanced their professionalism in topics including chemotherapy, biotherapy, and radiation therapy. There were more than 200 exhibitors at the conference featuring new products, services, and technologies in cancer care.

Among the most innovative, was Joseph Paris’ MHP Hair System. It provides patients facing medically-related hair loss with an important option for enhancing their self-image. “When patients think more positively about themselves, they can cope better with the challenges of a cancer diagnosis,” Mr. Paris said. “I was glad to be in an environment of cutting-edge cancer products and therapies at the conference. In the comments I received from nurses, many focused on the MHP Hair System as being state-of-the-art, while others remarked on how it will enhance the self-esteem of patients facing medically-related hair loss.”

“There is a common misconception that hair loss in comparison to physical pain is somehow less of a concern, when a patient’s life is hanging in the balance,” Mr. Paris continued. “Yes, it is true that if we had a choice between physical pain and hair loss, the obvious choice is hair loss. The difference is, chemotherapy patients do not have a choice, and they do in fact experience both physical discomfort and hair loss. Just because hair loss as a side effect does not involve physical pain, does not mean that it is not equally traumatic. In fact, hair loss can be even more psychologically traumatic, because physical discomfort subsides a few days after each treatment. But hair loss is prevalent until the completion of treatment,” Mr. Paris explained.

“I know from my experience in dealing with thousands of people undergoing chemotherapy treatments that when they look in the mirror and see only a wig, then that wig is not therapeutic for patients to wear. The wig must look real in order for it to feel real. Preserving the appearance of patients during treatment supports them psychologically, opposed to the emotional insecurity one feels when wearing a wig that looks unnatural,” he emphasized.

“From holistic and psychological standpoints, I claim that the MHP Hair System is in fact an integral part of chemotherapy treatment and should be mandatory practice in the battle against cancer. Awareness of the truth of my claim must be brought to the attention of doctors, insurance companies, and cancer patients around the world.”

The MHP Hair System has a positive effect on patients and its benefits were communicated to all those who came to the yourhairx booth at the conference. The beautifully designed booth by VIDA Design and Advertising featured life-sized images of several of Joseph Paris's female clients, each proudly wearing a completely natural-looking MHP Hair System. A total of 267 nurses visited the booth, asking questions, requesting literature, and watching a segment of Joseph Paris being interviewed on television.

Accompanying Mr. Paris in the booth, were two of his female clients wearing the MHP Hair System. When Mr. Paris told the nurses who visited that these women were wearing the MHP Hair System, they remarked that they were quite surprised. The hair of both women looked so natural, the nurses thought they had their own hair!
